Questions & Answers
Georgette is also called georgette or chiffon. Georgette is transparent, airy and matte. Produced in Japan, it has an exceptionally low weight of 42g/m2 and is the lightest georgette produced in the world
Georgette, due to its lightness and airiness, is most often used for sewing dresses for standard dances, for skirts, for airy elements on sleeves and decorations: flowers, draping, godets.
If you are sewing a skirt only from georgette, you should use 5 layers. You can use less, but you should use one layer of opaque material, e.g. lining, satin chiffon or satin.
Georgette is 112cm wide and the amount of georgette depends on the length of the skirt, i.e. the radius of the circle:
for a length of 50 cm you should buy 2.4m
for a length of 70 cm you should buy 3.2m
for a length of 100 cm you should buy 4.4m
Our offer includes pleated georgette semicircles in 3 lengths. You can find them in MATERIALS/PLEATED
Georgette is a fabric, so when you cut it on the edge, you can tear it. Tearing georgette can be used for various purposes, for example to create decorative effects in clothing or accessories. However, it is worth remembering that tearing the fabric can lead to damage, so it must be done carefully and in moderation so as not to destroy the entire material. If you plan to tear georgette, it is a good idea to test the technique on a small piece of material first to see how it behaves. Alternatively, you can cut with tailor's scissors.
