Questions & Answers
The ideal shoes for Latin American dances should have a flexible sole that allows the foot to move freely during the dance. They should be tightly fitted so that the foot does not move inside the shoe. The height of the heel depends on the level and skills of the dance. The sole should be made of "elk" - suede.
When choosing the size of dance shoes, it is worth considering that they should be tightly fitted to the foot, i.e. slightly smaller than everyday shoes, so that the foot does not move in the shoe while dancing. Shoes from different manufacturers of the same size in different models may differ from each other, so it is always worth trying on shoes before buying.
Theoretically yes, but the suede sole is not resistant to moisture and easily gets dirty with sand, which makes them very slippery on the dance floor. We suggest that dance shoes be changed and used only for dancing. Dance shoes are most often used by dancers, but due to their great comfort and convenience of use, they are irreplaceable during various special events, such as weddings, balls, proms or corporate events.
To make your dance shoes last as long as possible, you should put shoe trees in them and carry them in a breathable bag so that they can dry naturally after training. Satin shoes should be washed with satin foam and the sole should be cleaned with a special brush for soles.
In standard and Latin dances there is a different dance technique, which is why there is different footwork. In ST dances the shoes have closed toes and look more classic, in LA dances the shoes have open toes, which allows for more footwork: pointing the toes, standing on the toes, twisting and turning the foot.
Depending on the model, the shoes can be made of satin, eco-leather or patent leather, the interior is usually lined with soft microfiber and the sole is always made of suede.
Due to the different footwork technique in standard and Latin American dances, these shoes differ in heel height. For La they are about 3.5 cm, for ST about 2 cm.
For Latin dances – choose shoes with a soft, suede sole, the so-called elk sole, which allows you to work more with your midfoot and toes. Remember to clean this type of sole with a wire brush.
In LA shoes, i.e. Latin American dances, the following are danced: salsa, cha cha, jive, rumba, paso doble, bachata, mango, merengue.
Dance shoes guarantee stability in dance. Such shoes must be well-shaped in the instep, have a short "stay", i.e. an element that serves to stabilize and improve grip during dance. This can be a thin, strong insert or a special strap that helps maintain foot stability and allows you to perform turns on heels.
